Cornwall's Wealth of Wildlife

Cornwall Biodiversity Initiative Project

Welcome

This is the place to be to find out more about Cornwall’s Wealth of Wildlife and how you can make a difference.

Cornwall is home to an incredible Wealth of Wildlife. It is a magnificent peninsula jutting into mild seas and never is the beautiful coastline far away. Even from the high central peaks of Rough Tor, Carn Brea or Brown Willy the north and south coasts can be seen glinting in the distance.

Cornwall is magnificently framed by sea waters rich in nutrients that bring life to 700 km of stunning coastline - from the magical, rugged north coast to the sheltered, verdant rolling wooded valleys of the south coast. Wildlife spreads inland like fingers reaching out along estuaries, creeks and rivers to link wetlands, woodlands, old mine sites, farmland, meadows, heathland and moors. Indeed Cornwall has “Moor to Sea” for you and me!

The Cornwall Biodiversity Initiative is a partnership of many organisations, businesses and individuals from across Cornwall working together to protect and enhance Cornwall's Wealth of Wildlife. To do this a series of Biodiversity Action Plans have been produced to focus action and resources on specific habitats and species.

It is also possible for all of us to make a difference and this website aims to raise awareness about Cornwall’s wildlife by stimulating ideas that people (whether an individual or big business) can carry out either on their own or through the help of others.

Enjoy your journey around this site – together we can all help Cornwall’s Wealth of Wildlife.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any comments.
